For 1 in 4 women today there are a number of different reasons as to why they suddenly start to lose their hair. In fact, because more and more women are seeking ways of treating this problem, we are learning more about it daily. Below we will look at two of the main hair loss women causes.

1. Androgenetic Alopecia, this is exactly the same condition that men suffer from. However, with women rather than losing your hair completely and having bald patches appear on the scalp, the hair becomes thinner and diffused. In a number of cases, rather than women suffering from just one, with this particular problem, you may find it made up of a combination of different factors.

Normally the main reason for a woman to suffer from this form will be that the hormones within their body are not functioning properly. In many cases their levels of DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) has increased and when this happens, it prevents hair growth from taking place.

However, as well as an increase in certain hormones in the body another main reason for a woman to suffer from this form is due to their genetic makeup. In many cases, the woman's parents both have a gene that they have passed on and which results in hair loss.

2. Telogen Effluvium is the second most common form of hair loss in women today and is often the result of a traumatic even that has occurred in that woman's life. Certainly, women who have had a child, undergone major surgery, or suffered some form of severe stress have noticed that they may be losing more hair than normal.

The only difference between this type and that mentioned previously is that usually a woman will notice a difference about 6 weeks to 3 months after the event has occurred. For some women the condition may be so severe that they begin to lose clumps of hair from particular areas of the scalp, rather than a general thinning of hair over the scalp as a whole. Nevertheless, with the right diagnosis and treatment, this can be brought under control and in most cases, they may find the condition goes into remission.

Yet for some women the condition may be very severe and they will find that it becomes chronic and can be a problem they have to live with for a number of months or years to come. For many women before they can find a treatment for the condition they first need to understand what may be the trigger for it happening.

Above we looked at the two most common kinds of hair loss in women. Cause of the conditions are varied and yours may be different from the ones mentioned above.
