Hair loss for women can be an extremely traumatic event. We tend to expect men will lose their hair but when it happens to women there is a bit of a stigma attached to this.

Hair plays a great social role in a woman's life both in terms of self-image and sexuality. Society tends to take a lot of notice at how a woman's hair looks or is styled and many women make a lot of effort to conform to the standards society sets.

Whilst we lose hair density as we age there are other times in a woman's life when hair loss can be experienced. One of them is pregnancy.

Very often during pregnancy women discovered the hair becomes thicker. It is believed that during pregnancy the hair follicles are more active in their production of hair fibres.

What some women can experience after the birth of their baby is an in increased hair loss. This is due to changes in the hormone levels of the body. Of course this can be a distressing discovery particularly when trying to adjust to their life with a new baby.

Fortunately for these women unless there is some underlying illness their hair growth will return to a normal state over a short period.

It may well be considered the contraceptive pill has changed for the better, many aspects of a womans' life. However, some contraceptive pills contain high levels of male hormones, which can cause loss of hair for some women.

This does not mean every woman will experience this. It tends to occur more in women with a predisposition to this happening.

If you experience hair loss while taking the contraceptive pill or any other drug for that matter, you should read the list of side effects contained within the package or discuss with your doctor the side effects of taking such medication.

Of course then as women age and experience menopause the body produces less of the female hormone oestrogen. Some women will find themselves losing their hair due to a shift in the balance between the female and male hormones.

This is to can be devastating for women to find themselves not only aging physically on the inside but it showing on the outside as well.

Such a lot of focus is placed on our beauty and in particularly youth and vitality. Loss of hair changes the look of our face giving it an aged appearance.

This hair loss for women can cause in them a lack of self-confidence and reduce their self-esteem

Not every woman will lose hair during pregnancy or whilst taking the contraceptive pill. However most women will experience some loss of hair density as they grow older and therefore it is very important for them to seek treatment earlier rather than later.
